Down Jackets were popularized in the 1930’s. As it became a go-to item for wintery outdoors gear, more variations were developed. In the 1950’s the down vest was introduced, lightweight, compact and with increased mobility by removing the sleeves.
This one by The Real McCoy’s is based on probably the most recognisable designs of the period which was originally produced by Eddie Bauer. It was produced over a great many years into the 80’s and 90’s. The ones from the 50’s used a a quality Cotton-nylon fabric which is more compact and wind proof. The good people at Real McCoy’s have reproduced the fabric and it’s stunning.
The vest is a heavier gilet that works great under a jacket to add a pop of color, or just as a light vest over a sweater on the weekends.
